Article spinning is an SEO (search engine optimization) technique.  It involves taking an article and changing certain elements.  For example replacing one word with another.  This is done to avoid being penalized by the search engines for duplicate content.

Its a very fast way to quickly create a lot of different content from just one article.

Spinning can be done manually by changing the sentence structure and relacing words with synonyms, but the process is extremely time consuming.

Another option is to use automatic article spinning software.  There are many different pieces of software that will spin articles, and more work in the same way – by changing paragraph and sentence structures and replacing words.   Depending on the quality of the software, you can get anywhere from 5 to 250 different versions of the same article.

Once run through the software, the spun article will be completely unique.  If the software did a good job, the article should also be easy to read!  The spun articles can then get uploaded and distributed to various article marketing sites.  Because each of the articles are unique, the search engines will not penalize the content for being a duplicate – this way you are effectively uploading just one article to many different sites (although, of course it will be unique).
